A novalike stellar image of approximately ten magnitude is detected on photographs taken in Japan from February 13 to April 13, 1983. The confirmation of these observations with a Schmidt telescope is described. The object displays H-alpha, forbidden O I 6364 A and forbidden O I/forbidden S III 6302 A emission lines and is considered a nova in nebular phase. The position of the nova is alpha = 18 h 04 m 43.2 s and delta = 28 deg 49 arcmin 53 arcsec. The construction of a light curve from the films is discussed.
