The discovery of Supernova 2008hy in IC 334 was announced in IAU Central Bureau (for Astronomical Telegrams) Electronic Telegrams (CBET) #1608 and 1610. It has been determined to be a Type Ia supernova near maximum light (V=14.3 on 2008 Dec 07.13 UT). Spectroscopy obtained independently from two sources confirm Type Ia no more than a week after maximum light. Observations should be submitted to the AAVSO International Database using the name SN 2008hy.
