A strong correlation exists between the total nonthermal radio flux of a spiral galaxy and its integrated Hα emission line flux. The correlation is much tighter than the corresponding relationship between total radio flux and the integrated optical magnitude of the galaxy. The most straightforward interpretation of this result is that the relativistic electrons responsible for the nonthermal radio emission are produced primarily by massive young stars, not by the old disk population.
