Using the Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope (WSRT), the 6-cm (110-111) H2CO absorption against the continuum source W49A (G43.2+0.0) has been mapped with an angular resolution of 3.9×24.6 arcsec2 and a velocity resolution of 0.73 km s-1. The profiles show a striking variation in shape over the 15 continuum sources; this has been interpreted as clumping of the molecular material. Evidence for two major clouds at 4 and 12 km s-1 was found; the former is only detected in absorption towards three of the continuum sources. Typical clump parameters are a size of ≡0.8 pc and a density of molecular hydrogen of 5×104cm-3, resulting in a mass of ≡103M_sun;.
