Consideration is given to a situation in which a satellite has been injected into a circular geocentric orbit, while a spent stage has separated from the satellite and continues to move under the effect of the residual thrust of its engine. It is shown that this residual thrust lowers the spent stage to lower orbits than the satellite orbit. This lowering is considered to be undesirable from the viewpoint of the operation of the satellite radio-communication system. It is shown that the lowering can be reduced to a minimum by an appropriate choice of the direction of separation of the stage from the satellite.
