It is noted that extreme care and patience must be exercised in the laboratory preparation of bacterial samples for spectroscopic study, if such studies are to faithfully establish the properties of bacteria in interstellar environments. It is pointed out that the IR and UV absorption measurements of bacteria reported by Yabushita and Wada (1985) are corrupted by the effect of water in the bacterial samples.
