A 2-deg field in the galactic plane near longitude 54° has been mapped at 1.4 GHz using the Penticton synthesis telescope. The supernova remnant G54.5-0.3 is seen as a prominent shell structure with diameter 41 arcmin, well resolved with the beamsize of 2.6×1.3 arcmin. A second ring-like structure in the field, once proposed as another supernova remnant, is now shown to be thermal. The complex field also contains: (1) several other extended sources, most of them unrelated H II regions spread over a large distance ranging up to 11 kpc, (2) many extragalactic sources of small diameter and quite steep spectral index, and (3) an elongated structure subtending nearly 0°.5 that may be an obscured giant radio galaxy.
