Observational criteria are proposed for structural models of Be star envelopes. The purposes of the criteria were: (1) to make it possible to distinguish between axisymmetric and nonaxisymmetric models; and (2) to determine whether Be star envelopes are flattened or not. The observational criteria include the starting phase angles of quasi-sinusoidal shell variations; the phase lags between V/R curves of different emission lines; and the detectability of photospheric variations in H-alpha observations of pole-on stars. Several effects of nonradial pulsations on Be star envelopes are considered. A new working hypothesis is proposed concerning the modulation of mass losses with time; inhomogeneities of radiation-driven wind in stars whose luminosity is insufficient to generate wind; and the transport of angular momentum between different regions of a Be star envelope.
