Cosmic ray energy spectra have been derived using several spectra observed near the earth by the HEAO-3 spacecraft. The calculations were carried out within the framework of the leaky box model using values deduced from the secondary B/C and (Sc-Cr)/Fe ratios. The nuclei observed in the spectra included C, O, Ne, and Mg. Additional spectra were obtained for Si, Ca, and Fe nuclei. All the energy spectra were well fitted by a power law in momentum with an exponent equal to -2.41 + or - 0.005. Comparison with data obtained at higher energies showed a progressive flattening of the C + N + O spectrum in the TeV nucleon region. H and He source energy spectra were also derived by means of the leaky box method. The spectral index of 2.1 applies to the H spectrum at all energy levels from several TeV to a few GeV. No steepening was observed towards the lower energies. On the basis of the source energy spectra, it is suggested that a soft-component of heavy nuclei with a spectral index of about 2.7 is superposed to the common source spectrum of 2.1.
