The results of an extensive series of numerical orbit calculations on the effect of perturbations of passing field stars and the galactic tidal field on the orbit of a double star are reported. The results indicate that, for a sun-Nemesis system, an irregularity of at least 10 percent, and more likely around 20 percent, in the period of revolution over the past 250 Myr is to be expected. This suggests that even completely accurate dating of mass extinctions and crater impacts should not be expected to yield perfectly sharp peaks in the power spectrum of a Fourier analysis.
