The authors present circular spectropolarimetric observations of VV Puppis obtained when the system was in a high state. Although the intensity spectrum shows no evidence of cyclotron harmonic features, the circular polarization spectrum shows a broad minimum centred at 5040 Å which could be interpreted as cyclotron harmonic number n = 7 in a magnetic field of 3.2×107G. The observations are interpreted in terms of current models of cyclotron emission from an accretion shock.
