Zero-age models and evolutionary sequences for horizontal-branch stars with very low envelope hydrogen abundances (X less than 0.01) have been constructed. Models with a helium core mass of 0.475 solar mass reproduce the observed luminosity and surface temperature of the pulsating helium star BD + 13 deg 3224 (V652 Her) very well. The rate of period decrease of BD + 13 deg 3224 can also be reproduced by considering the contraction of the models as they evolve from their zero-age position towards the Helium Main Sequence.
