Blending of absorption lines in intermediate dispersion spectra of quasars could affect the observed redshift evolution of the numbers of Lyα clouds, since blends of weak lines may then be incorrectly included in equivalent width or column density limited samples. Analyses of realistic simulated data show that such effects do not significantly alter power law estimates for the redshift dependence of the cloud numbers.
