We consider the evolution of linear non-axisymmetric perturbations in discs with radially and vertically stratified equilibria. We work in the shearing sheet and Boussinesq approximations. We choose density and pressure equilibrium fields compatible with a background flow depending only on the radial pseudo-Cartesian coordinate x. We find that, for unstable vertical and radial stratifications, trailing waves can transport angular momentum outwardly. This occurs when entropy gradients with respect to x and z coordinates have the same sign and the wavenumbers ratio kz/ky is less than a critical value, which depends on the radial Richardson number and the shear parameter.
