Spicules are considered currently to supply chromospheric matter into
the corona with a speed of ≡25 km/s. Analysis of recent
observations of the solar EUV spectrum with high spatial and spectral
resolution reveals this concept to be wrong. As a rule, an upward motion
of matter does not occur in spicules.
