A theory of interferometry is presented with emphasis on solar observations performed with a short-baseline system. Attention is given to the response of an interferometer with a Gaussian frequency band to a source with a Gaussian brightness distribution, and to the response of a simple interferometer to a multipoint source. The use of phase measurements to determine the principal parameters of interferometer antenna systems is considered.
