An analysis of 25 scans by the Ariel V sky survey instrument has revealed a galactic contribution to the X-ray background of between 2.5 and 7.2% between galactic latitudes of 90 and 20 degrees, respectively. In addition, a 90% confidence upper limit of delta v less than 475 km/s (delta v=200 plus 175 or minus 195 km/s) in the direction of the microwave anisotropy. Significantly, an oblate 12 h X-ray variation with a pole common to the 24 h microwave variation is detected, suggesting the presence of a matter perturbation of more than 1% over a scale greater than 3000 Mpc.
