Galaxies whose rotation curves pass through a turnover have close
companions more often than do galaxies whose rotation curves end in a
plateau. Neighbor galaxies, even those of low mass, evidently can often
distort the gas-velocity field and the mass distribution in the outer
regions of a given galaxy.
