Galaxies: Star Clusters
Scientific paper
A compilation has been made of available data on the ratio of the number of metal-rich ([Fe/H]>-1.0) to metal-poor ([Fe/H]<-1.0) clusters in various globular cluster systems. Among early-type galaxies of types E, E/S0, and S0, the ratio of blue to red globular clusters is found to vary by almost 2 orders of magnitude. The data suggest that cD galaxies have the widest range of evolutionary histories. The fraction of metal-rich red clusters is largest among early-type galaxies and appears to decrease toward later Hubble types.
