Measurements of Eta Carinae in the ultraviolet are reported and used to determine the extinction. It is concluded that the foreground material will produce the observed extinction and that there is no need to introduce anomalous additional extinction, as has been argued by previous authors. The consequences of this for the infrared radiation are discussed along with the intrinsic properties of Eta Carinae
