It is shown that the single-aperture grating interferometer produces a deep achromatic fringe field that yields information on the source separation of a two-point source; the intensity ratio between the two points, also, can be ascertained. The primary value of this method lies in the field of application to objects of greater complexity than can be addressed by such simpler techniques as that of Michelson stellar interferometry. Attention is given to the basic grating interferometer arrangement.
