On the basis of very simple analytical considerations, it is shown how the strong trapping of neutrinos during stellar collapse has the effect of preventing nuclear dissociation. It is also shown how existing equations of state for neutrino-free matter (neutron star matter) can readily be extrapolated to arbitrarily neutrino-rich matter. Finally, models of neutron stars with trapped neutrinos are constructed, and their relevance for stellar collapse is discussed.
