The ionized gas in NGC 5236 was studied by spectroscopic means. The
radial behavior of the line ratios forbidden-N II/forbidden-S II,
H-alpha/forbidden-N II, and H-alpha/forbidden-S II suggest a real
nitrogen overabundance in the central regions of that galaxy.
