The reasons for the discrepancy between spectroscopic and trigonometric gravities found by Hearnshaw (1976) are discussed with reference to new observational data obtained for Gmb 1830. The analysis does not confirm the correlation found by Hearnshaw between metal-deficiency and the difference in gravity as derived from the ionization equilibrium conditions and the trigonometric parallax. It is suggested that this correlation resulted from systematic errors in the equivalent widths of the weakest lines. Thus, spectroscopic and trigonometric gravities are consistent for metal poor dwarfs, and existing models are adequate for these stars.
