We propose to obtain high resolution infrared spectra at the 8.3 m
Gemini South telescope to examine the nature of the cool components of
symbiotic stars in the Magellanic Clouds. Physical parameters such as
temperature, luminosity, mass loss rate and chemical abundances can
provide information about their evolutionary stage and binary structure.
