We point to several problems in the recently proposed rotating extended envelope scenario for the formation of elliptical planetary nebulae. The problems that we find here add to the accumulated supporting evidence for the necessity to include the influence of companions in models for the formation of elliptical planetary nebulae. The binary companions need not necessarily be stars: they may be brown dwarfs or massive planets as well.
