The necessity for a wide angle UV space telescope for astrophysical investigations is outlined. Some of the main scientific goals such as full sky survey and the study of UV emission of extragalactic and galactic objects, which may be achieved by the use of the Astrophysical Schmidt Orbital Telescope (ASCHOT), are presented. The concept of the telescope design, its optical and the detector system, and its system of guidance are described. The limiting sensitivity of the telescope is estimated: it is about 24m for stellar objects at 1500 A.
