A program of ground based optical observations supporting gamma ray and x-ray space activities is presented. The idea is to provide inexpensive simultaneous or quasisimultaneous optical data with photographic and charge coupled devices. The photographic patrol network is described and its main advantages for x-ray and gamma ray astronomy are summarized. GRO (Gamma Ray Observatory) immediate follow up studies are described.
