An equation is derived in a spherical coordinate system for a pressure-field disturbance generated by the solar terminator in the ionosphere above 100 km. It is shown that the solar radiation flux gradient in the terminator region ultimately leads to upward plasma transfer in the morning and downward plasma transfer in the evening. This leads in turn to the intensification of the Rayleigh-Taylor instability during evening hours, which helps to explain the observed greater likelihood of the appearance of small-scale disturbances at postsunset hours.
