We report on new observations of normal galaxies at millimeter wavelengths, performed with the aim of reducing the substantial discrepancies (by factors of one order of magnitude or more) found among various published average broad-band spectra of galaxies in the far-IR to mm spectral domain. We show that uncertainties in the estimate of beam-aperture corrections still prevent a resolution of the problem and demand further observations of the mm surface brightness distribution of spiral galaxies. This investigation has implications not only for the total amount of dust in galaxies and its spatial distribution, but also concerning the galaxy contribution to the cosmic microwave background's spectral intensity and fluctuations.
