Scientific paper

At 19:16 UT on January 20th, 2005, Swift began a target of opportunity observation of the RXTE discovered transient XTE J1701-462 (ATEL#696, #700). The Swift/XRT on-board centroiding algorithm located a bright, previously uncatalogued point source at the following coordinates: RA(J2000): 17:00:57.2 Dec(J2000): -46:11:16.8 with a error radius of 5.8 arcseconds (90% containment).
