Globalizing observations means increasing awareness and participation in astronomical data collection. This involves the ‘astroeconomics’ of observing facilities and their access. How and to what extent can such facilities be ‘globally networked’? This article concentrates on information, costs and values, with a special regard to the low-cost end of the distribution. The inferences are applicable to a wide range of real observing situations.
