We present an analysis of the structure and kinematics of regions surrounding the active galactic nucleus in NGC 7469, from a spectral data base collected over 7 years at the European Southern Observatory (La Silla). We study the properties of the narrow line region from a set of forbidden lines conspicuous on the average, high signal-to-noise, spectrum. We discuss the structure and kinematics of the broad line region through the emission-line variability.
