Since Hubble Space Telescope and Keck Telescope were operating, great progress in study on Lyman α forests has been made in the past 10 years. The properties and origin of Lyman α forests have been better and better understood. In this paper, the observations on Lyman α forest, including column density, Doppler parameter, abundance, size and shape of absorbers, space distribution, evolution and relationship between Lyman α forest and galaxies, are reviewed.
