Current developments in the theory of element production and the chemical evolution of the galaxy are presented. A case by case analysis of results for Li, He, D and CNO isotope data in the center and disk of the Galaxy is provided. From the data and the Li abundances, it is indicated that the abundance of the light elements is consistent with the standard big bang.
