We have performed spectroscopic observations of the peculiar Be star He 3-640, the optical counterpart of the hard X-ray source A 1118-61, whose compact member is a 405 S pulsar. Our data show the presence of very short time variability of H-alpha equivalent width. We discuss the possible use of this kind of variability as an indicator of a Be/neutron star binary.
