High spatial resolution images of the infrared source RCW57/irs1 obtained through broadband K and L filters reveal that this source consists of two components separated by 1.5 arcsec. The northern component is point-like while the southern one is diffuse, it is extremely red, and its position shifts with wavelength. This implies that the southern component is not seen directly, and its light is probably scattered toward the observer by circumstellar dust. The southern component is probably the one responsible for the bulk of the luminosity.
