The hard X-ray and gamma-ray source 1E 1740.7-2942, which has been identified as the source of variable annihilation line radiation near the Galactic center, has not yet been optically identified. The area including the error circle for 1E 1740.7-2942 has been observed at high resolution. The resulting optical candidates which are brighter than 21 mag in I band are listed here.
