D.D. Maksutov was born in Odessa, where he has achieved his first experience in telescopes making. At 17 He has left Odessa for Sankt-Petersburg, while after his coming back in 1920 He has made his main discoveries, which were introduced into practice in Sankt-Patersburg, where he returned again in 1930. The paper is written by the well known Soviet telescopes makers Nikolay Nikolaevich Mihel'Son. It concerns the 100-th years birthday aniversary of Maksutov. The paper represents a reprint from "Zemlya i Vselennaya" N3, 1996.
