The distribution of the 6-cm H2CO absorption across Sgr A has been measured with a beam of 3.6×3.5 arcsec2. Velocities in the range -9 to +88 km s-1 were covered with a resolution of 3.1 km s-1 and absorption was detected only near +40 and 0 km s-1. The former occurred against the extended continuum emission of Sgr A West with an optical depth of ≡0.1, but not against the intense unresolved source thought to be associated with the nucleus of our Galaxy. There are difficulties with the simplest interpretation, in which the molecular cloud is behind the point source. All of the zero-velocity absorption takes place well in front of Sgr A, except at +3 km s-1 where some of the absorption may occur near the Galactic Centre.
