Observations of the J = 2→1 line of CO have been made towards 17 positions in the southern galactic plane where H2O masers have been detected. apparent self-absorption is found for RCW 38. In the vicinity of the Carina H2O maser the CO linewidth is broader than at neighbouring positions, which may be related to outflow. The J = 5→4 line of CS has been observed towards the H II region G 322.2+0.6. From a comparison with the J = 1→0 line observed previously, an H2 density of 8×105 cm-3 is derived.
