The author announces the discovery of oscillations with a period of 12.5 min in the cool magnetic Ap star γ Equ (HR 8097, HD 201601). He presents 36 hr of high speed photometric observations obtained on 11 nights during a time span of 98 days in 1981. It is suggested that further observations of the 12.5 min oscillation may yield the rotation period for γ Equ independently of the magnetic measurements. This in turn would discriminate between the oblique rotator and magnetic cycle explanations for the very slow magnetic variation in γ Equ.
