The fine structure of the magnetopause was analyzed on the basis of Prognoz-8 data obtained during crossings of the magnetopause on December 29, 1980, January 18, 1981, and February 3, 1981. It is shown that oscillations of the electric field with lower hybrid frequency have an elevated amplitude on the inner side of the magnetopause, which agrees well with the nonlinear theory of gradient drift instability. Lower hybrid turbulence with an amplitude of 0.001-0.0001 V/m does not have a significant effect on the large-scale structure of the magnetopause, though it has an effect on the dynamics of processes connected with the formation of local small-scale structures inside the magnetopause.
