A more sophisticated model than those of Yoder (1979) and Yoder and Peale (1981) is used to examine the dynamics of the capture into resonance of Io, Europa and Ganymede along similar lines, yielding an assessment of the extent to which their results were model-dependent. Attention is also given to the behavior of the system immediately before capture. It is found that the forced eccentricity of Io at the time of capture is 10 percent smaller than that assumed by Yoder and Peale. Other differences noted are not qualitatively significant, confirming the plausibility of the Yoder scenario.
