The diameters d, of inner ring structures in disk galaxies are used as geometric distance indicators to derive the distances of 453 spiral and lenticular galaxies, mainly in the distance interval 4 < δ < 63 Mpc. The diameters are weighted means from the catalogs of Kormendy, Pedreros and Madore, and the authors. The distances are calculated by means of the two- and three-parameter formulae of Paper II; the adopted mean distance moduli μ0(r) have mean errors from all sources of 0.6-0.7 mag for the well-observed galaxies.
Multiple comparisons between the distance scales derived from d, and from several other indicators, including the luminosity index, the hydrogen line width in spirals, the central velocity dispersion in early-type galaxies, the brightest superassociations in spirals, Type I and Type II supernovae, and the redshift, indicate an excellent systematic agreement and confirm the linearity of the scale in the distance modulus interval 28 < μ0(r) < 34.
The main catalog is given in Appendix A. A guide to the user appears in Appendix C. The limitations and pitfalls of the method are discussed: barred spirals (SB) are best; ordinary spirals (SA) are poorest and most subject to confusion. A detailed error analysis is given in Appendix B.
