Results are reported for measurements of the linear polarization of scattered continuum light at 50 positions in the Orion Nebula. The observed linear polarization in regions surrounding the Kleinmann-Low nebula are plotted as lines whose lengths and directions indicate, respectively, the degree of polarization and the orientation of the electric vectors. It is found that most of the planes containing the electric vectors are perpendicular to the radial vectors from the Trapezium, but most of the planes near the Kleinmann-Low nebula are parallel to the declination line. It is concluded that the observed polarization near the Kleinmann-Low nebula can be interpreted in terms of either backward scattering caused by dielectric particles or scattering by elongated dust grains aligned in the magnetic field.
