Significant differences in line asymmetry and wavelength shifts of line centers are obtained by photoelectric scans of six medium-strong Fe I lines in quiet and active regions close to the solar disk center. An I2-absorption tube was used for wavelength calibration. In addition, stronger line core blueshifts and smaller line flank blue bulges were shown by the bisectors in active regions around sunspots. These differences are interpreted in terms of a modification of the hydrodynamic structure of the photospheric layers beneath Ca(-)-plage regions. This interpretation is supported by both a second-order perturbation analysis quadratically relating line profile parameter variations with atmospheric quality variations, and a two-stream model representing atmospheric fluctuations by positive and negative rms values.
