It is pointed out that observations of the interstellar medium have resulted in the detection of over 90 different molecular species coexisting in cloud-type structures scattered throughout the galactic plane. The present investigation is concerned with a computer program which has been developed in order to study the chemical evolution in interstellar clouds. A description of the modelling procedure is provided and some general results are explained. The results were obtained with the aid of a basic time-dependent program for a quiescent, static cloud of constant density and kinetic temperature. Details concerning the model are considered along with the initial conditions, diffuse clouds, medium density clouds, and high density clouds.
