The sky will soon be populated with a fleet of new X- and gamma-ray
satellites with extraordinary capabilities. This paper is meant to
introduce these new missions, Chandra, XMM, and Astro-E, which will
provide a large fraction of our high energy ``space observatory''
functionality for the next decade.
