The presence of two zones in the surface distribution of the Sikhote-Alin meteorite shower is connected with the two-stage nature of its fragmentation, which was caused by the presence of two components of differing strength in the initial meteorite: hexahedrite and octahedrite. Such composite structure is a consequence of the unusual chemical composition of the meteorite.
